Eliminate CO2 emissions from the generator
The aquaculture industry plays a vital role in meeting the world’s food needs in a sustainable manner. As a fish farmer, you can ensure that energy consumption out on the cages is as sustainable as possible.
Switch to a hybrid energy solution
Today, diesel generators with large CO2 emissions often account for a large part of the energy supply on fish farms.
We have developed our own energy systems that make it easy to reduce the use of generators and improve the climate footprint in aquaculture. By installing our hybrid system, you get an environmentally friendly, economical and, not least, quiet primary energy source.
Are you considering a hybrid system on your platform?
What is a hybrid system?
A hybrid system primarily consists of a battery, generator and control system, but can also be supplied with solar cells.
The batteries are charged from generators, shore power or extra energy sources such as solar panels. This means that you get a hybrid energy solution that works well and helps you save money on electricity bills and generator maintenance.
With a hybrid solution, the platform can operate without using the generator to any great extent.
How the hybrid system works
The batteries receive power from surplus energy that the generators produce. When the batteries are full, the generators stop and start again only when needed. In this way, the generators’ operating time can be reduced from 24 hours to only a few hours, depending on the configuration of the system. This cuts down diesel consumption and eliminates generator noise for large parts of the day.
To further reduce the need for the generator, you can also use energy from solar cells to charge the battery.

Developed in collaboration with leading experts
Our hybrid energy system is developed in collaboration with AKVA group, Siemens, Samsung SDI and TESVOLT. Together, we have found the best energy solution for the aquaculture industry, which is adapted to the environment in which it will operate. Therefore, the system has:
Optimal effect
Adapted storage capacity
Estimated lifespan of 20 years
The Mímir control system
The control system is the key to an efficient hybrid system. Therefore, we have developed KE Mímir, a software that optimizes and controls the energy flow in the hybrid system. With control you get:
Smart battery
Reporting
Remote control
Safe operation
Selected projects within aquaculture
Mortenlaks
In December 2019, we installed AKVA Hybrid banlegg on Mortenlaks’ feed barge to reduce diesel consumption and CO2 emissions. The battery pack has a storage capacity of 173 kWh and a maximum output of 120 kW.
Annual Diesel Savings: 68,500l.
Kvarøy Fiskeoppdrett
In April 2019, the feed barge at Selsøyvær had an AKVA hybrid package installed to reduce generator running time, reduce diesel consumption, noise and exhaust on the barge. The battery pack has 158kWh storage capacity and has a maximum output of 142kW.
Annual diesel savings: 68 500l
