Idunn: Nordic elegance charges the future

In the urban landscape, every element communicates – every detail matters. Yet electric vehicle charging points have often appeared more as an imposed feature than a natural part of the urban space. With Kverneland Energi’s new DC fast charger Idunn, this norm is challenged through sophisticated design that blends elegantly into any public space.
The name “Idunn” is taken from the Norse goddess who guarded eternal youth and renewal – a fitting image for this innovative fast charger. Idunn not only provides a quick energy boost, it also revitalizes the environment in which it is placed.
Inspired by Nordic minimalism
Idunn’s design builds on the traditions of Nordic architecture, characterized by simplicity, purity and functional beauty. Clean lines and balanced proportions draw parallels to classic Nordic architects such as Alvar Aalto and Arne Jacobsen, and modern architectural offices such as Snøhetta. The charging station’s minimalist expression emphasizes the principle that everything unnecessary should be peeled away.
Materiality and craftsmanship
Nordic architecture is known for its intimate relationship with natural materials and high quality craftsmanship. Idunn follows this tradition by combining robust metal elements with warm wooden surfaces, inspired by Norwegian craftsmanship traditions. Similar to Sverre Fehn’s well-known design language, this combination of materials creates authenticity, durability and a welcoming warmth.
User-centric and intuitive
Ease of use is at the heart of Idunn’s design. The charge point has a clear and intuitive user interface, designed for easy and efficient use. Inspired by the philosophy of Danish designer Poul Henningsen, where the human being is at the center, Idunn facilitates that users meet the charging experience as natural and uncomplicated.
Harmony with the surroundings
Idunn blends in naturally with its surroundings, whether it’s busy urban spaces, quiet parks or along coastlines. The design has been developed with its surroundings in mind, with soft lighting and subtle use of materials ensuring that the charging station becomes an aesthetic asset rather than a distraction. This ability to create harmony with the environment continues the proud tradition of architects such as Jørn Utzon and Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter.
With Idunn, Kverneland Energi sets a new standard – where technology meets aesthetics, and functionality meets beauty. Idunn is not just about charging the vehicles of the future, but about giving new life to the urban space itself.
